Attention Students: Ways to beat the January Blues

Beat the January blues

January is tough. It's the anti-climax month. It's a wet and cold month. It's a poor month. It's a bloated, lethargic month. But STOP! Before we bring you to your knees with this terrifyingly depressing intro we need to tell you the plan:

WE'RE NOT GOING TO STAND HERE AND TAKE IT, JANUARY.

We’re going to take you down. We’re going to get busy. We’re going to, pro-actively, bounce up in your FACE and then hop, skip and jump right through you, smiling all the way, with our top 10 tips:

BOOM! We may have 99 problems. But the January Blues isn’t one.

  1. Indulge in January sale therapy: Nothing cheers you up like a bargain. And to get you going, there’ll be some HUGE 2019 January sale reductions, as footfall on the high street continues to fall, retailers have to offer bigger bargains than ever to get customers into their shops.
  2. Get into one of the 10 most amazing box sets of all time: There is NOTHING cosier, more enriching, more satisfying, more cheery than getting into an incredible box set with your friends.
  3. Volunteer for a summer festival: If you want to get into a festival for free as a volunteer, now's the time to sign up. How happy are you going to feel, knowing you've already got your pass into a decent festival or two this year?
  4. Spring-clean early... Almost nothing will make you feel better than completely clearing out all the dirt and rubbish from that place you call you home. And your first port of call for doing this on the cheap is vinegar.

  5. ...whilst simultaneously making money selling your unwanted old rubbish! Oh! And whilst you're clearing out all the rubbish, you may as well sell it and get cash, because we all know getting cash for rubbish cheers a soul up.
  6. Do some volunteering: It's proven that doing something good for someone else makes you feel better. FACT. Ahem, it's good for your CV too... How to volunteer at a music festival
  7. Visit mates at other universities: A change is as good as a rest and there's nothing like an old friend. Go visit them on the cheap.
  8. Go for a night out without drinking, dancing, flirting and merry making: If you persist through the difficult opening hour or two, you can end up having a surprising amount of fun - AND THEN THERE'S THE CASH SAVED. INCREDIBLE.
  9. Become a fitness god: The gyms are busier than ever, stocks of vegetable in supermarkets are surprisingly low and pubs and clubs are freakishly quiet. This can only mean one thing - it's January. The month where people of all shapes and sizes vow to give up their vices, lose weight and improve their fitness.
  10. Plan and book a holiday for the summer: The advantages of booking your summer holiday now are oh so many... - maximise looking forward to it/getting excited every-time you think about it - Make early booking savings AND choose the best places - Book it while there's still cash in your account - Book it before everyone gets all tied up doing other things and it becomes literally impossible to find a free week or get anyone to commit to anything... don't forget to book your travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday as you will be covered if you have to cancel your holiday at a later date if you fall ill.
