Do I need musical instrument insurance?

1) Theft when you’re out and about
The biggest concerns that musicians tell us about is the risk of theft of their instrument when they leave the home to perform or practice.
This risk is increased if you’re storing it overnight at venue. Thieves are savvy creatures and they know how much you’ve spent on your kit. Also, most instruments can’t be traced back to their owners so they’re easy to sell.

2) Many household policies now exclude musical instruments
Many household policies now exclude musical instruments. This means that you will have to specifically request that your instrument is added to your policy.
This may significantly increase your premium and it may be more cost effective to take out our standalone music instrument policy.
If you cover your instrument under your general household insurance, you should also consider:
- If you make a claim for your musical instrument, you could also lose your no claims bonus on your home insurance
- Will your musical instrument be covered when you take it out of your home? We would advise you to check the terms and conditions of your home insurance policy as it may just cover in the home when cover is extended.

3) Accidental damage to your music equipment
